Many of our guests traveling to the Amazon have varied interests – photography, hiking, and bird watching to name a few. South American Journeys has a large staff, including English speaking guides to accommodate everyone's needs. The Journeys are designed to match individual interests and pace.

5. How about accommodations?

The network we have since established of hotel owners, land operators and guest houses from local villages, allows us to ensure that every traveler is well cared for in the cities, as well as along the Amazon.

6. What kind of food do you serve?

We dine on typical local cuisine which is based on chicken, fresh caught fish, rice, and a wide variety of fruits and vegetables cooked in many different ways.

7. Can you accommodate vegetarians?

Yes we can. In fact, we have led vegetarian only trips. Since the local diet is mostly based on fruits and vegetables, vegetarians find themselves right at home.

We specialize in cultural journeys and offer great opportunities to interact with the local people. We offer yoga retreats and artist workshops, as well as writing, culinary, photography, music, and nature workshops.

10. Does your company sponsor local projects and help to sustain the economy of the places visited?

In an effort to balance our commitment to sustainable tourism, and to offset the effects of global warming, South American Journeys has created the Green Traveler Program. We have initiated a reforestation project on 24 acres of land, which is part of the largest White Sanded Forests in the Amazon basin. Each client traveling with South American Journeys becomes an active sponsor of our reforestation program.

11. What type of vaccines are required?

No vaccines are required, however, we suggest having your Tetanus, Yellow Fever, and Hepatitis A & B updated. Malaria precaution is also highly recommended. Upon registration all participants receive an information packet to help them prepare for the expedition. (Yellow Fever is required for Tambopata Reserve travelers).

12. Do you offer travel insurance?

In most foreign countries, insurance coverage for personal injury, accident or illness is not available on the basis of U.S. standards. That is why we strongly urge you to check with your insurance agent to make sure you are adequately covered for any eventualities. We strongly recommend the purchase of Travel Insurance including "trip cancellation". Information about insurance will be also mailed out upon registration.
